Roberto Simon is the lead analyst for Latin America in the Geopolitical Intelligence team. He is a Director, located in New York in the Global Risk & Investigations Practice, in the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment.
Mr. Simon provides political risk analysis on key Latin American countries to clients, both at the macro and micro level for retainer clients and as bespoke project work for consulting clients. His analysis of the political, economic and policy environment in Latin America and how it will develop over the medium and long term is a key element of our corporate political risk advisory service. Alongside other experienced political risk analysts in FTI Consulting’s New York office and in regional offices across Latin America, he is part of a global team that connects political events to commercial outcomes and identifies the specific implications of political events for corporate and investment environments.
Mr. Simon has more than 10 years of experience as a political analyst and journalist covering events in the emerging world, particularly in Latin America. He was a Public Policy Fellow with the Brazil Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a prominent think-tank in Washington D.C., and worked for more than eight years as a reporter with O Estado de S. Paulo, one of Brazil’s top national dailies. At Estado, Mr. Simon covered on the ground several political crises in Latin America, as well as issues such as Brazilian foreign policy, energy and electoral disputes.
Mr. Simon is finishing a book on South American politics in the early 1970’s, to be published in Portuguese, Spanish and English. He has contributed to several leading media outlets, including Foreign Affairs.com, Folha and Estado de S. Paulo (Brazil), and El Faro (El Salvador).
Mr. Simon has a Master in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and an M.A. in International Relations from the Sao Paulo State University. He received his B.A. in International Relations from the Catholic University of Sao Paulo. Originally from Brazil, he speaks English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
