Jim Taylor is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in London. Jim is in the Economic and Financial Consulting segment and acts as a valuation expert in the Metals and Mining sector. Before joining FTI Consulting, he was a mining equity analyst at Canaccord Adams, Renaissance Capital and RFC Ambrian.

Jim has over 30 years’ experience of valuing mining companies and projects in addition to experience in operations and as a consultant. He has visited and evaluated mining projects in all major mining centres of the world with a focus on the emerging market regions, including South America, West and Central Africa and Central Asia.

On graduating as a mining engineer, Jim spent three years working in management on a gold mine in South Africa. He has also undertaken two 9-month consulting assignments, at a copper project in Chile and at a gold mine in Ghana. Jim has spent most of the past thirty years as a mining equities analyst in London, where he has worked for several firms including Smith New Court, Yorkton Securities, Canaccord Adams, Renaissance Capital and, immediately prior to joining FTI Consulting, RFC Ambrian, where he was Head of Research.

During his time as an equities analyst, Jim has covered a wide range of companies in the mining sector. These include companies from across the commodities spectrum and development cycle and from a broad geographical base. Whilst at RFC Ambrian he co-authored reports on the mineral sands sector, the coking coal sector and the West African gold sector. Jim has marketed his research to leading institutional investors in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia. Jim has extensive capital raising experience having issued pre-IPO research on numerous companies during his career, including African Barrick, Nikanor, UrAsia Energy and African Iron.

Jim has a B.Sc., in Mining Engineering from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London.
