Drew Forbes is a Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment of FTI Consulting. With over 12 years of commercial experience, Drew is a specialist in leading restructuring and special situation engagements, whilst also having experience in varying advisory engagements.

He has acted for a range of clients, leading both formal insolvency appointments and informal advisory mandates across numerous industries including retail, manufacturing, technology, property development, renewable energy and finance.

Significant engagements

  • Steinhoff International - On behalf of the global lender syndicate, managing the independent review process of the group’s worldwide business operations, including activities in APAC, EMEA, the United States and Africa which incorporated approximately 130,000 staff and €20b of revenue annually.
  • Providing interim management services to Goldman Sachs and Tenenbaum Capital Partners with respect to their investment in a large scale renewable energy asset in tropical North Queensland.
  • Providing consultancy services to a regional Victorian based non-bank debenture issuer and lender, following a voluntary freeze on noteholder redemptions. Drew oversaw a desktop review of individual loans collectively valued at AU$120 million and advised on the current position of the lender as well as restructuring and asset realisation alternatives.
  • Advising Platinum Equity on the 70% acquisition of Sensis from Telstra for AU$454 million. Drew provided operational due diligence advice on major cost centres and other areas of the Sensis business.
  • Leading the sale of Burgess Printing and Packaging, which was sold to a Danish based multinational. Drew was responsible for overseeing the negotiation of initial terms, due diligence, contract negotiation and preparation and settlement.
  • Leading the sale of Omnifloor, one of Australia’s largest commercial carpet installation businesses, overseeing all facets of the sale through to its successful completion.
  • Advising a major Australian bank on its exposure to Victoria’s largest independent butchery chain, including in respect to performance improvement, restructuring and asset divestment alternatives.
  • Conducting an independent business review of a leading Australian supplier of garden ware and associated outdoor products on behalf of a major Australian bank.
  • Advising a major Australian Bank with respect to borrowings provided to a large wholesaler and retailer of menswear, including an assessment of brand performance and competitive positioning, sector outlook, recent financial performance and various recovery alternatives.
  • The voluntary administration of the Australian licensee of global fashion and homewares brand Laura Ashley. Leading the sale process, Drew negotiated a sale which saw a significant proportion of the brand’s store footprint sold.
