Brian Kennedy is the Senior Managing Director, Head of Americas at FTI Consulting and is based in Houston and Washington, D.C. Mr. Kennedy is the chair of the Global Energy & Natural Resources practice in the Strategic Communications segment. He also serves as a co-leader of the Energy, Power, and Products consulting group.

Mr. Kennedy oversees FTI Consulting’s multidisciplinary team of corporate, crisis, financial, litigation, regulatory and advocacy communications professionals that specialize in the energy sector. With nearly 20 years of experience in energy and natural resources-related communications, national media affairs and public policy advocacy, Mr. Kennedy provides strategic counsel to energy companies facing complex communications challenges associated with financial and operational crises, investigations, major litigation, mergers and acquisitions, shareholder activism, and federal legislative and regulatory threats. His current and former clients include companies that span the spectrum of major integrated and independent oil and gas producers, oilfield services, pipeline and petroleum refining companies, coal and hard rock mining concerns, and electric utilities. Following the Macondo incident in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, Mr. Kennedy served as chief spokesman and public and government affairs strategist for Transocean Ltd.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Kennedy served in a variety of high-profile communications and public policy roles in Congress, including Press Secretary for the then-Republican Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, John A. Boehner (R-OH), Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Communications for the House Committee on Natural Resources, and chief spokesman for both the Speaker’s Task Force for Affordable Natural Gas and the House Energy Action Team (HEAT). During his time in Congress, he worked on the development and passage of legislation including the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act of 2006, the Threatened and Endangered Species Recovery Act, and other energy and environment-related bills. Mr. Kennedy also ran several successful Congressional elections campaigns.

Mr. Kennedy has been named to the highly regarded M&A Advisor “40 Under 40” and the National Journal “Power Players” in Washington, D.C. for his work. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.
